As of the November 2019 update for Office 365 for Mac or Office 2019 for Mac (build 16.31), macOS 10.13.6 or later is required to receive updates to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. If you continue with an older version of macOS, your Office apps will still work but you will no longer receive any updates including security updates.
Upgrading your operating system to macOS 10.13.6 or later will allow Office updates to be delivered for your apps. Note that new installs of Office 365 for Mac or Office 2019 for Mac will also require macOS 10.13.6 or later.
- Office is only supported on the last 3 builds of Mac OS - with the release of Catalina, they now support 10.15, 10.14, and 10.13. Users with office installed before this will stop receiving updates but can continue to use office. If you can find an older build that will install and activate, you can use it.
- Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 provides classic Office apps and email for families and students who want to install them on one Mac or Windows 10 PC for use at home or school. Classic versions of Office apps include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Office 2016 for Mac is fully supported on macOS 10.13 High Sierra. If you encounter issues using Office 2016 for Mac, please send us feedback so we can address them. In Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, you can click on the Send a Smile icon in the top-right of the app. For Outlook, choose Contact Support from the Help menu. 15.34 and earlier.
To provide you with the best experience, Office for Mac supports Apple’s three most recent versions of macOS. With the release of macOS 10.15 Catalina, Office 365 for Mac and Office 2019 for Mac supports macOS 10.15, 10.14, and 10.13.
